Sitchin’s Legacy

In the new Atlantis Rising Issue #100 and other books, magazines, and on-line websites, I have seen, as is the question: are we alone? Are there others out there? They reference Sitchin in many of them, but I don’t see anyone following up on Zecharia Sitchin’s, “Goddess of Ur Genome Project.” It has not moved forward since his death. If they want to know, this appears to be the best chance we currently have to find something out. This is completely detailed in his book, There Were Giants Upon the Earth. When you go to his official website; the last posting on the project, was 2011.

I also wish he has submitted more information to your magazine. I have many VCR tapes with his interviews that he did on TV. I need to find some way to get them on DVD to save them, as they are not the ones being sold. I know there are programs out there. But it would take too many years for me to learn how to use them. I can’t even get my printer/scanner back on line. Microsoft, in the infinite wisdom of one of their updates, removed all my software and blocked it. So it’s Geeks on Call for me.

On another matter: Atlantis and the magnetic anomalies or signatures. The Atlantis Blueprint [by Colin Wilson and Rand Flem-Ath], pg. 317 talks about the active volcanism beneath the West Antarctic ice sheet. I came to the following words: “Strikingly circular features in the Landsat images from ice stream E in West Antarctica might also be interpreted as volcanic constructs.” I was immediately alerted because this ‘strikingly circular feature’ was near the coast along the Ross Sea. We know that Plato’s city of Atlantis was immense and circular in design and that it was carved from a small hill that stood on a plain near the ocean’s shore. All these details were outlined in When the Sky Fell, [by Rand and Rose Flem-Ath]. Now it seemed we might have stumbled upon the city of Atlantis by accident.

The authors wrote: “This depression is underlain by a peak in the subglacial topography that is associated with a unique magnetic signature.” There is also the magnetic anomaly on the shore of Lake Vostok, yet I can find nothing new on either of these two things. Does anyone else have new info that I have not found? Certainly these look like something someone would be looking at.

More on Ancient Races

I wish to add to the letter in Reader Forum (AR #99), by David Almeida, on “Ancient Races.”

His conclusions, for the most part, are supported by many texts outside the Bible, which speak of a pre-Adamic race, some of whom were, undoubtedly, cave men, as was Adam. In I Adam 1:9, [we find] “And God commanded him to dwell in a cave—the Cave of Treasures below the garden.”

The Book of Jasher (translated by Alcuin of Britain, in the eighth century), which is quoted by both Joshua (10:13) and Samuel (II 1:18), as their authority, alludes to a pre-Adamic world: “So that the face of nature was formed a second time” (I Jasher 1:5). When the face of nature was re-newed, we read: “behold Jehovah appeared in Eden, and created man, and made him to be an image of his eternity” (vII).

Enoch, also, corroborated the notion of a pre-Adamic world, for he wrote of a time when “an age came forth, very great and very dark, bearing the creation of all lower things” (II Enoch 26:3).

The Kolbrin Bible, which includes The Egyptian Texts of the Bronzebook, “a 3600-year-old anthology penned by Egyptian academicians and scribes,” tells us: “In olden times, there were spawned great monsters and beasts in fearful form, with frightful gnashing teeth and long ripping claws; an elephant was but a rat in comparison with them. Then, because of heavenly rebellion [of Lucifer] and turmoil and the terror overwhelming the hearts of [pre-Adamic] men, the Great One hardened the face of the land, which had become unstable, and the beasts were changed to stone. This was before-times, when the Destroyer still slumbered in the upper vaults of Heaven” (GLN: 3:5).

The text also says, “It is written, in The Great Book of The Fire Hawks, that Earth was destroyed twice, once altogether by fire and once partially by water. The destruction by water was the lesser destruction, and came about in this manner” (GLN: 4:1).

The Bronzebook, in another text, states: “It is known, and the story comes down from ancient times, that there were not one creation but two, a creation and a re-creation. It is a fact known to the wise that the Earth was utterly destroyed once, then reborn [re-created] on a second wheel of creation” (CRT: 3:1).

What do we really know about the pre-Adamic race? And what did they look like? Were they in resemblance closer to us or to the apes?

The Egyptian Bronzebook gives us the answer: “They tell how the ape tribe Selok, lead by Heavenman [Lucifer], perished in flames before the Valley of Lod [Gen. mentions, strangely, “the ‘land of Nod,’ to which Cain was banished], only one [hominoid] she-ape reaching the cave heights above” (CRT: 2:3).

Cain may, very well, have intermarried, with this hominid she-ape of the pre-Adamic tribe Selok, as this sole survivor may have been in the very same area based on the similarity of the area of “Lod” and “Nod”! However, we are not told that Cain had two wives in Genesis, but one of his descendants, Lamech, did. This much we do know of Cain, “he took his sister Luluwa, and married her” (II Adam 1:5).

Thus, contrary to David Almeida, there was, perhaps, a modern human connection to cavemen in the lone survivor of the tribe Selok, for even Adam did not have a home other than a cave he was commanded to occupy.

Portal to Worlds Unknown

Amaru Meru (“Portal to Worlds Unknown,” by Robert Schoch, AR #100) means: repository of secrets guarded by the doorkeeper. This mythological storehouse is figuratively in the East. Eden as Paradise Lost—tilmun was guarded by a cherubim warden. However, the real secret is why Paradise must be lost and kept inaccessible. That truth is disguised by the notion that civilization’s shrines are portals of power/durmah. Marduk built Esharra in the East as a temple-fortress guarded

Very of. Of that: my next works but have job & past,.

by his Scorpion-man persona. Likewise, the western entrance/Eridu to Ea’s half of the Underworld/Apsu was guarded by his goat-fish persona. Together they were duranki, the doorkeepers…

Mexican Mica

Arlan Andrews’ “Mexico’s Mysterious Mica (Atlantis Rising #100) detailed the extensive use of mica by the ancient people who built the structures at Teotihuacan. He pointed out that mica has unique electrical properties and suggested a couple of possible reasons for its use. There is, in addition to these, at least one other possibility, and here I must venture beyond proven fact and into the realm of speculation.

The Great Pyramid at Giza in Egypt has about the same base size as the Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan but is twice as tall. If, as many believe, there is a primal universal energy, variously called chi, ki, prana, etheric energy, etc., and the Great Pyramid was designed to focus and/or alter this energy in a manner very roughly analogous to a lens focusing sunlight, could the Pyramid of the Sun have had the same purpose? (Even if so, this does not rule out multiple functions for the mica and for both pyramids.)

But how could a pyramid only half as high do the same thing as the one in Egypt? Perhaps the mica, with its unusual properties, compensated for the lack of height.

And there is another angle to this. Supposedly it has been established that the Mexican mica was brought from Brazil some 2,000 years ago. We now know that there was a vast complex of fairly advanced agricultural civilizations in the Amazon region at that time and probably even earlier. They built towns on raised mounds, an elaborate canal system, and figured out how to enrich the poor rainforest soil. Perhaps it was they who mined the mica and transported it by river and canal (an unnatural appearing waterway links an Amazonian tributary with one feeding into the Orinoco). From there they might have sailed it up the Caribbean and then traded it overland to the Valley of Mexico.

Atlantis and History

There is no way possible that this planet could know anything at all about our past with no, or false, information to start from.

Atlantis is the starting point.

Atlantis changes everything we thought we knew into false speculation.

Half of the ancient cities in the world would have originated in the western hemisphere and then moved to the eastern hemisphere after the Bering land bridge and Atlantis disappeared

Without Atlantis the world is missing the best and most important part of its history.

Atlantis is the missing link to the only true history there will ever be, and without Atlantis there is no possible way to know anything about where we originated and really lived.

Can you imagine what moving the site of the city of Jericho from where it is today to where it originated, might mean, and how that one of many cities could change our history and the way we think forever—and, I can say for sure, for the better.

Survival Research

A very strong case for survival [after death] was made by a number of distinguished scientists and scholars of yesteryear who represented the Society for Psychical Research. (See “The Man Who Proved He Wasn’t Dead,” AR #100)

An even better, and much broader, case is currently being made by the “Society For Scientific Exploration,” and has been since 1982.

According to Wikipedia: “The Society for Scientific Exploration, or SSE, is a professional organization of scientists and other scholars committed to studying unusual and unexplained phenomena that cross traditional scientific boundaries and may be ignored or inadequately studied within mainstream science. The opinions of the organization are usually at odds with those of mainstream science.”

The Society was founded in 1982 by 14 scientists and scholars, and the first SSE meeting took place at the University of Maryland, College Park in 1982.

As of 2008, the SSE has approximately 800 members in 45 countries.

Of the SSE and its journal, journalist Michael D. Lemonick writes, “Pretty much anything that might have shown up on The X-Files or in the National Enquirer shows up first here. But what also shows up is a surprising attitude of skepticism.”

Creatures of the Underworld

Deep in north central New Mexico is the sleepy little town of Dulce. Located on the Archuleta Mesa on the Colorado-New Mexico border, Dulce is home to about 3,000 and is capital to the Jicarilla Apache Nation. In the early 1980s this seemingly insignificant location became a center of controversy. Physicist and inventor, Paul Bennewitz, claimed he had discovered an underground base there occupied by extraterrestrials. His story quickly spread throughout the UFO community. Sensational allegations included human abduction by these extraterrestrial beings. Bennewitz also asserted that the extraterrestrials were engaged in the development of advanced technologies including genetic manipulation. Their plan, according to Bennewitz and other conspiracy theorists, was to control the governments of Earth by means of a New World Order. Fantastic rumors soon emerged of an untoward alliance between shadowy secret societies such as the Illuminati, the Masons, the Bilderbergers, etc., and the alien inhabitants of the Dulce base.

If such theories were not strange enough, it was also purported that an intergalactic war was raging between multiple ET races and Earth, indeed, was ground zero. Among the places where such underground bases were said to exist, Dulce was the most notorious, but it was not the only one. Subterranean bases, according to the conspiracy theorists, could be found around the world with major active outposts all across the United States, Australia, Antarctica, and South America. These bases were said to be connected via an immense series of tunnels. There were even assertions that one leads to an active base beneath the Vatican which had exerted control over western civilization for centuries.

The sheer number of recent reports regarding such underground bases has led some perfectly sane individuals to wonder aloud whether, in some strange way any of this could be true? And, indeed, an unexpected source of corroboration may have been available to all of us for a very long time. Could modern accounts of interaction with life beyond Earth originate from the same sources that inspired our ancient ancestors? Could the answers we seek be found in our mythology? Mythology, after all, like many of the claims that come from the UFO community, seems to be something more than just fiction. Traditional mythologists suggest that the gods we find in myth, rather than being literally true, merely represent the forces of nature, archetypes, and spiritual truth. They were not simply the product of someone’s vivid imagination. That said, does ancient mythology, like today’s extraordinary report, have any basis in concrete fact?

After all, stories of underground realms occupied by “the gods” have pervaded mythology. Depending on the culture, they have been called Hades, Tartarus, Xibalba, Duat, Patala and Hell. These “homes of the gods,” were not always found deep within the earth, but were sometimes described as being within a mountain or deep beneath the waters of the earth. Entrance to their domains, regardless of locality, was often presented as accessible to humans through some kind of cave.

The gods that occupied these diverse locations were often depicted as half man, half snake or fish, as giants, and as monsters. By some reckoning, the final group of gods making its appearance on Earth was a group of “sky gods,” of which it was claimed that we were made in their image.

If Earth was visited by extraterrestrials in the past, where did they come from? One possible reference to a point of origin, Sirius, comes from the Dogon people of West Africa. In their creation story an ark, containing eight amphibious, hermaphroditic, fish-like creatures, the Nommo, came to earth in our remote past. References to specific constellations permeate mythology, including the Pleiades, Orion, and the Big Dipper. It seems Earth was split into four territories associated with the cardinal points with different races or groups of gods assigned to each quadrant. In Hindu tradition, for example, the aquatic or “fertility” gods were associated with the west, the giants with the north, the gods of the underworld with the south, and the sky gods the east.

Some stories that emerge from antiquity indicate that fertility gods who lived “in the watery deep” originally ruled the Earth. Their relationship with the other groups seemed tenuous at best. The tension between these different groups can be illustrated in the story of The Churning of the Milky Ocean. This Hindu classic tale suggests that early in Earth’s past different races of gods banded together into two separate alliances, the Devas and the Asuras. The word Deva originally meant celestial or shining one. They were described as the “good gods.” The Asuras, on the other hand, were portrayed as evil, power seeking, sinful, and materialistic. The Devas were depicted in artwork as having human form while the Asuras are depicted in the form of snakes, demons, and monsters.

The Devas had lost their precious amrita, the nectar of immortality in the planet’s watery depths. They realized they were not strong enough to retrieve it by themselves. A truce was called between the Devas and the Asura, with the promise that the Devas would share the amrita with the Asuras. The two groups reluctantly joined forces with one goal in mind, to recover the amrita. The gods churned the ocean for thousands of years until finally the prized amrita appeared. The Asura rushed in to seize the amrita from the heavenly Devas. The Devas appealed to their supreme god Vishnu who transformed himself into a beautiful nymph. Her beauty took the Asuras aback. This clever diversion distracted the Asuras from their attempt to appropriate the amrita and granted the Devas the time needed to recover the amrita-filled cup. War broke out between the Devas and the Asuras. The Asura realized they could not compete with the deadly weapons of the Devas and retreated. The surviving Asura, in an effort to escape, entered the bowels of the earth, while others plunged into the salt-water seas.

Stories of a great war between the gods are a consistent theme in cultures around the world. In these narratives, the winners, the sky gods, take control over Earth and the losers are sent, cast, or flee to the underworld.

Another example of this ancient conflict comes from Greek mythology. In the beginning, according to the Greeks, Uranus was in charge. He had a number of children, the Titans, the Hekatonkheires and the Cyclops. Uranus hated his children and locked them in the depths of the earth in a place called Tartarus. This incensed their mother Gaia who incited her other sons to rebel. The rebellious group was lead by the fertility god Cronus, who, using a sickle, castrated his father and took control over the earth. Once he gained power, he re-imprisoned his brothers in Tartarus.

The story continues where we discover that Cronus had six children with the goddess Rhea. When the first five of his children were born, Cronus swallowed them. Cronus’ youngest son Zeus escaped this fate. Years pass without conflict. Zeus, now in manhood, returned to his rightful home and freed his brothers and sisters from the belly of his father Cronus. Once released, Zeus called all of the gods to his heavenly home Olympus. The gods took sides. Some wanted to remove Cronus from his seat of power. Others did not want to see Zeus take command. Ultimately, war broke out.

The battle raged on. Zeus, based upon a prophecy from his grandmother, released Cronus’ brothers, the Titans, from the depths of Tartarus. The Titans provided Zeus with the help he needed to defeat Cronus. Armed with weapons built by the Cyclopes, Zeus and the other Olympian gods overthrew Cronus and took control. Cronus and the conquered Titans were bound in chains and sent to the cavernous gloom of Tartarus. This ended the reign of the fertility gods.

With examples like this, the notion of underground or underwater bases that house extraterrestrials in our remote past as well as in the present seems a little more plausible. Entrance into the underworld, according to ancient texts, though, was anything but easy. The Mayan Popul Vuh, for example, describes the route taken by the hero brothers Hunhun-Ahpu and Vukub-Hunapu. It tells of a steep descent into the home of the Lords of Xibalba and the many challenges they had to face. Similarly, texts such as The Egyptian Book Of The Dead, describe the path by which the deceased god-king must travel to enter the Duat. Like the Popul Vuh, the path is fraught with challenges the individual must pass in order to enter the realm of the dead, the underworld. The Vishnu Purana states that the deepest level of the underworld, Patala, can be found 70,000 yoyanas beneath the surface of the earth.

The underground domains of the gods were described as filled with houses or vast halls where thousands of individuals could assemble. Fountains, plants, tall grasses, trees, and animals of all kinds filled this land. The divine ascetic, Narada, who is featured in the Vishnu Purana claims to have visited Patala. “Patala was much more charming than heaven.” He exclaimed, “What can be compared with Patala where Nagas (serpents) are adorned with beautiful and brilliant and pleasure-diffusing gems? This region is embellished with the daughters of Daityas and Danavas.”

Similar descriptions of the underground/underwater homes of the gods are scattered throughout mythology. The home of the Sumerian fertility god, which is located in the watery deep, is described as having been built of gold, silver, and lapis lazuli. Even writers, such as Greek philosopher Plato, echo this notion. He believed that the earth was littered with a number of hollows that were full of water, air, trees, fruits, and flowers.

Surprisingly, Plato seems to echo yet another claim made by modern UFOlogy. Plato states that subterranean channels connected these hollows to one another, but he is not the only one who refers to tunnels that lie beneath the surface of the earth. Inca legends tell of vast networks of tunnels that crisscross the length and breadth of the planet, complete with underground cities. When Pizarro and the Spanish conquistadors entered Peru, they kidnapped the Inca emperor Atahualpha and held him for ransom. They demanded enough gold to fill a room in return for Atahualpha’s release. Pizarro’s men heard rumors that the Inca gold was being held in a vast network of subterranean tunnels. The tunnels were thousands of years old and ran for miles beneath the Inca capital. In more recent years adventurers who entered the caverns beneath Cusco were never seen again. One man actually did make it out alive, bringing with him two bars of gold. According to reports, he had gone mad. The entrances to the tunnels were then walled up for safety’s sake—at least that is the official story. The Apache Indians report that their ancestors took refuge in ancient tunnels during a cataclysmic disaster on the earth. They wandered these immense passageways for years carrying the seeds of life for the new world.

But what about claims made by UFOlogists regarding these bases being used for genetic engineering? According to their assertions, it is in the lowest level, the seventh level, of the Dulce base that the extraterrestrials are engaging in this kind of experimentation.

Again, mythology has a parallel. Native American tribes across the country seem the most vocal when it comes to this topic. The Jicarilla Apache (whose headquarters is in Dulce), the Navaho, and the Hopi Indians have long-standing traditions of man’s creation and emergence from beneath the surface of the earth. The Algonquians recount, “Thus did the lowermost world-cave become overfilled with living things, full of unfinished creatures, crawling like reptiles over one another in dark blackness.” In this matter they do not stand alone. Berosus, a Babylonian priest, tells of the hideous creatures that inhabit this underground realm. He described men who had one body but two heads, some with the legs and horns of a goat, and even some with the hindquarters of a horse and the body of a man. “In short, there were creatures in which were combined the limbs of every species of animal.”

These genetic experiments are, according to reports from the conspiracy theorists, being conducted by a group of reptilian beings in the lowest levels of the base. Thomas Castello, who represents that he was a senior security officer at the base, testified that the base at Dulce is a seven-level, underground facility with the lower levels described as a series of natural caverns. It was believed by Castello that different extraterrestrial races used these caverns in our remote past. In Hindu cosmology, the Naga (serpents) once lived on Earth, but the great god Brahma sent them to live under the sea and in the seventh level of their underground realm called Patala. In the Sumerian Inana’s Descent To The Nether World, Inana is required to pass through seven gates to finally reach the bowels of the underworld. Aztec legend says that Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent, went to Mictlan, the Aztec Underworld, and created mankind using his own blood and the bones of the previous race. A common theme in mythology of the act of creating humanity is associated with fertility/serpent gods.

All this begs the question: just why would extraterrestrials come to Earth in the first place? And why would they create humans? Some believe mankind was created as a slave race to do the bidding of the gods. Unfortunately, though, mythology tends to be very quiet on the why side of things. From Sumerian sources, there are indications that early men may have lived and worked the earth as farmers in the fields, or as miners digging up lapis lazuli and other precious metals and stones from beneath. Regrettably, the texts do not provide a name, group, or race associated with these activities, making a definitive claim impossible. The passage could just as easily be describing work that was imposed upon the giants. It does seem more likely, to some, based upon humanity’s relationship with the gods, that we were created, not as a slave race but, perhaps, as a domesticated species. Could the gods, instead of treating us insensitively and harshly, have cared for us in much the same way we love and care for our pets?

What does seem evident is that many of the tales of current UFOlogy have striking parallels with the myths and legends of antiquity. Do all such stories have a basis in fact? Were the gods living, breathing beings that walked the earth in our remote past—those who created man and played an essential role in the development of life and culture on the planet?
